Professional gutter cleaning in San Antonio typically costs $125–$275 for a single-story home and $175–$375 for a two-story home. A proper cleaning means hand-removing debris, flushing every downspout, bagging and hauling the waste, and sending photos. Most homes under live oaks or pecans need cleaning twice a year, ideally after the spring live oak drop and again in late fall.

What does professional gutter cleaning include in San Antonio?
A professional gutter cleaning removes every bit of debris from the gutter troughs by hand, flushes each downspout until water runs freely, bags and hauls the waste, and documents the condition of the system with photos. If a crew only blows leaves off the roof and leaves, you did not get a gutter cleaning.
Here is what our standard San Antonio cleaning covers on every visit:
- Hand-cleaning the troughs. Leaves, live oak catkins, pecan husks, seed pods, shingle grit and packed sludge are scooped out by hand, not blasted onto your flower beds.
- Downspout flushing. Each downspout is flushed with a hose from the top. Clogs at elbows are cleared, and underground drain lines are checked at the outlet where accessible.
- Debris bagged and hauled. Waste goes into bags, not onto your lawn. We leave the ground around the house as clean as we found it.
- Roof-edge clearing. Loose debris sitting in valleys and along the roof edge that would wash right back into the gutters is cleared.
- Inspection photos. You get photos of problem spots: loose hangers, leaking seams or end caps, sagging runs, rotted fascia or a missing drip edge.
Cleaning is also the cheapest inspection you will get. Many of the gutter repairs we do start with something a crew spotted during a routine cleaning, like a separated seam or a hanger that has pulled out of soft wood.
How much does gutter cleaning cost in San Antonio?
Gutter cleaning in San Antonio typically runs $125–$275 for a single-story home and $175–$375 for a two-story home. Price depends mostly on roof height, the total linear feet of gutter, roof pitch and how much debris has built up since the last cleaning.
| Home type | Typical price | What pushes it higher |
|---|---|---|
| Single-story, light debris | $125–$200 | Long gutter runs, many downspouts |
| Single-story, heavy oak or pecan cover | $175–$275 | Packed sludge, clogged elbows, roof valleys |
| Two-story, light debris | $175–$275 | Steep pitch, limited ladder access |
| Two-story, heavy debris | $250–$375 | Underground drain lines to clear, tile or metal roof care |
Homes with tile or standing-seam metal roofs, common in parts of the Hill Country, can take longer because crews work from ladders rather than walking the roof. If you want a full picture of what gutter work costs across the board, see our San Antonio gutter cost guide.
How often should gutters be cleaned in San Antonio?
Most San Antonio homes need gutter cleaning at least twice a year. Homes under mature live oaks, pecans or Ashe juniper often need three or four cleanings a year to stay clear, because those trees shed something nearly every season.
| Tree cover over the roof | What it drops | Suggested frequency |
|---|---|---|
| No overhanging trees | Wind-blown leaves, shingle grit | Once or twice a year |
| Live oak | Leaves (late winter to spring), catkins and pollen tassels, acorns | 2–3 times a year |
| Pecan | Leaves in fall, husks and nut debris, catkins in spring | 2–3 times a year |
| Ashe juniper (cedar) | Fine needles and berries year-round | 2–4 times a year |
| Cedar elm, Arizona ash, bur oak | Small leaves, seeds, large acorns | 2 times a year |
Our gutter maintenance schedule lays out a month-by-month plan if you want to set reminders.
When is the best time to clean gutters in San Antonio?
In San Antonio, the most important cleaning usually comes in late spring, after the live oaks finish dropping, with a second cleaning in late fall or early winter after pecans and deciduous trees shed. That is the opposite of the northern rule of thumb that fall is the only cleaning season.
Live oaks are nearly evergreen. Instead of dropping leaves in October, they shed old leaves in a heavy flush in late winter and spring, roughly February through April, while pushing out new growth. At the same time they release catkins, the stringy pollen tassels that mat together in gutters like wet felt. Cleaning in January means you will likely be cleaning again in May.
Central Texas is nicknamed "Flash Flood Alley," and San Antonio averages roughly 32 inches of rain a year, much of it in intense bursts. Spring storms often arrive right when gutters are fullest of live oak debris. Scheduling a cleaning in late April or May clears the system before heavy downpours test it.
What happens if you skip gutter cleaning?
Clogged gutters overflow, and in San Antonio that overflow does real damage fast. Water that should be carried away spills over the front edge or behind the gutter, soaking fascia boards, staining siding and dumping straight onto the soil around your slab.
- Fascia and soffit rot. Water held against the wood behind the gutter is the leading cause of rotted fascia. See fascia and soffit repair for what that fix involves.
- Foundation stress. Much of the area sits on expansive clay that swells when wet and shrinks when dry. Concentrated overflow at one corner of the house feeds that cycle. Our guide on gutters and foundation problems explains the connection.
- Sagging and pulled hangers. Wet debris is heavy. Full gutters pull away from the house and break their pitch, which makes them hold even more water.
- Pests. Standing water breeds mosquitoes, and damp, debris-filled gutters give rats and squirrels an easy path to the roofline.
Is DIY gutter cleaning worth it?
DIY cleaning can make sense on a single-story home with easy ground access and light debris. On two-story homes, steep roofs, tile or metal roofs, or anywhere you would need to lean a ladder against the gutter itself, hiring a crew is safer and often faster.
If you do it yourself, scoop debris by hand into a bucket, flush each downspout with a hose, and watch where the water exits. If it backs up at the top, the clog is in an elbow or an underground line. Avoid pressure-washing debris down the downspout, which simply moves the clog. Downspouts that drain poorly may need a downspout and drainage upgrade rather than more cleaning.
What should you look for in a gutter cleaning company?
Look for a company that hand-cleans the troughs, flushes every downspout, hauls the debris away and shows you photos of the finished work. Those four things separate a real gutter cleaning from a quick leaf-blower pass.
- Liability insurance. Ladder work on two-story homes carries real risk. Ask for proof of coverage before anyone climbs.
- Ladder standoffs. Ladders should rest on the roof or wall, not on the gutter, which can dent or crush it.
- A clear, written price. You should know the cost before the crew starts, not after.
- Honest repair advice. A good crew points out problems with photos and leaves the decision to you, without pressure.
If a quote seems far below the typical range, ask exactly what is included. Skipping the downspout flush or the haul-off is the usual way a cleaning gets cheaper.
Should you add gutter guards instead of cleaning?
Gutter guards reduce how often you need cleaning, but they do not eliminate maintenance. Under live oaks, catkins and fine debris can collect on top of even good guards, so a light top-side rinse is still needed once or twice a year.
For homes cleaned three or more times a year, quality gutter guards often pay for themselves within a few seasons. We compare the options tree by tree in our guide to the best gutter guards for oak and pecan trees. Our Gutter Cleaning Process
Walk-around and protection
We look over the gutters, downspouts and landscaping, set ladders with standoffs so they do not crush the gutter, and protect beds where needed.
Hand-clean every trough
Debris is scooped out by hand and bagged. Roof valleys and edges that feed the gutters are cleared too.
Flush downspouts
Each downspout is flushed from the top. Elbow clogs are cleared and underground outlets are checked for flow where accessible.
Inspect and photograph
We note loose hangers, leaking seams, sagging runs, fascia rot or drainage issues and photograph anything that needs attention.
Haul-off and report
Bags are hauled away, the ground is tidied, and you receive photos plus any repair recommendations with pricing. No pressure to approve.

Gutter Cleaning FAQ
How much does gutter cleaning cost in San Antonio?
Most San Antonio homes pay $125–$275 for a single-story cleaning and $175–$375 for a two-story home. The price depends on total gutter length, roof height and pitch, the number of downspouts and how much debris has built up. Homes under heavy live oak or pecan cover land toward the top of each range, especially if downspouts or underground lines are clogged.
How often should I clean my gutters in San Antonio?
At least twice a year for most homes. If live oaks, pecans or Ashe juniper hang over your roof, plan on three or four cleanings a year. A good baseline is one cleaning in late spring after the live oak drop and another in late fall or early winter after pecans and other deciduous trees shed.
When do live oaks drop their leaves in San Antonio?
Live oaks shed most heavily in late winter and spring, roughly February through April, as new leaves push out the old ones. They also drop catkins, the stringy pollen tassels, during the same window. That is why late spring, not fall, is often the most important gutter cleaning of the year in San Antonio.
Do you flush the downspouts as part of a gutter cleaning?
Yes. Every downspout is flushed with water from the top so we can confirm it drains. Clogs at elbows are cleared, and where downspouts tie into underground drain lines, we check that water exits at the pop-up emitter or outlet. If an underground line is crushed or root-bound, we will let you know and quote the repair separately.
Do you haul away the debris?
Yes. Debris is scooped into bags and hauled off rather than dumped in your yard or blown onto the landscaping. Crews also pick up anything that falls during the cleaning, so the ground around the house, including flower beds, walkways and the driveway, is left as clean as we found it.
Will I get photos of my gutters after the cleaning?
Yes. We photograph the cleaned gutters and anything that needs attention, such as leaking seams, loose hangers, sagging sections, missing end caps or rotted fascia. Photos are especially useful if you cannot get on the roof yourself or are managing a rental property from out of town.
Do gutter guards mean I never need to clean my gutters?
No. Good gutter guards greatly reduce cleanings, but fine debris like live oak catkins and juniper needles can sit on top of the guard and slow water entry. Plan on a light top-side rinse or brush-off once or twice a year, and an occasional downspout check.
